A French story

In 1950, Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal reached the summit of Annapurna. For the first time in the history of humanity, men conquered a summit above 8,000 meters, they were French, and it was with their LIP Himalaya watches that they checked the time upon arrival above the "first 8000". Five years later, in the spring of 1955, the Himalaya would conquer a new record on the arm of Lionel Terray and Jean Couzy, by making the first ascent of Makalu, the 5th highest peak in the world at 8485 meters above sea level.
